Bikeshare Travel Forecasting (Methodology/Analysis)
Methodology to forecast bike activity in the absence of bicycle counts using Bikeshare data.
While at VHB, I forecasted bicycle activity in the absence of complete bicycle count data, I took origin-destination pairs and routed them along the road network using a trip planner system built upon OSM (OpenStreetMaps). Calculated cycle routing preferences based on various degrees of safety and trip directness tolerance to project current bike activity and preferred routing choice for cyclist. Bikeshare trips were extrapolated to serve as indicators for overall bicycle activity. This methodology was applied to several District Department of Transportation (DDOT) corridor studies including Pennsylvania Ave. SW and Connecticut Ave NW.
