At VHB, I built the GTFS Explorer Tool with the purpose of lowering the technical expertise required to understand and work with GTFS feeds. The tool empowers my colleagues to explore and filter GTFS feeds by overcoming the relational data structure and size of these datasets. The GTFS Explorer Tool accepts any standardized GTFS feed, allows users to understand service on any given day within the span of the feed, and allows users to quickly view a profile of all routes in service on that selected day. Users can toggle to a map view which allows them to see the routes in service geographically. They can also select a specific route and understand service patterns including all variants of the route and stops served. Lastly, the tool allows users to download in a more user-friendly format, a compiled excel table and shapefiles.
