Transit Crowding and Level of Service (App)

An interactive geospatial tool built to model real-estate development ridership impacts.

While at VHB, I developed this tool, built on RShiny, which uses a combination of GTFS (General Transit Feed Specific) data and APC (Automatic Passenger Count) data to identify existing ridership patterns to/from a clients’ real-estate development site. Users provide inputs including the site stop and additional transit passenger trips expected as a result of the site. The tool layers on the additional activity onto existing routes by distributing the additional trips throughout the day according to route activity. The transit impact tool, applied to numerous transit impact studies in the Boston region, has taken an extremely complex excel exercise and vastly simplified it resulting in an 80% timesaving’s to the preparation of transit impact studies.
